Applying to an Australian Institute
The decision to study overseas may well change your future so there are many factors to be considered before you apply for admission to an Australian education institution. You need to identify a course of study and institution that is best suited to your needs and career aspirations. Australia offers thousands of courses that are tailored to the needs of the modern professional student and, naturally the costs associated with your tuition and living expenses in Australia will also play a major part in your ultimate decision of finalizing your study destination. Students considering an international education are, therefore, advised to undertake as much research as possible to help them get the best education in Australia. Researching your different study options, weighing up the pros and cons, and then applying for admission takes time, but it is probably the most important step in your ultimately successful career. The more time you can devote to this step the better, so start 4-5 months before you intent to start the next towards your career in Australia.
Generally speaking, admission to Australian institutions is based on your academic merit. There are no academic entrance tests required such as SAT, GRE etc. GMAT might be a requirement for some universities for entry into their MBA programs and some institutions might have their own specific requirements for certain subjects. This makes it essential that you thoroughly check the entry requirements of your desired course at the institutions that you plan toapply to. The only mandatory test that all australian education institutions will insist upon is proficiency in English language which willbe demonstrated by an IELTS result. The IELTS result that you require for admission to an Australian education institution will usually be the same as the IELTS result requiremed by the Australian Government in order to obtain an Australian student visa. In some cases however, an education institution may require a higher IELTS result so once again it pays to check the requirements of admission carefully.

In India, the two authorised testing agencies for IELTS are IDP Education Australia and the British Council. The cost of undertaking an IELTS test is currently Rs.5,250/- and the test score is valid for a period of two years. If you obtain a score marginally less than what is required for the Australian student visa, you may opt to take an ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students) in Australia along with the main stream course. An IELTS test cannot be repeated within three months of your previous test.
