As with many other countries, there is no official ranking of the education institutioins in Australia. Therefore a common question of Indian students, "Which is the best institution in Australia?", cannot be answered directly. You need to think about what it is that you are looking for in your education experience in Australia and then compare what each institute has to offer. While it takes some time and research, it's well worth making the effort to make sure you make the right decision.
Some of the parameteres you should consider, while trying to zero in on the best education institution for you in Australia, are:
- the balance of practical and theoretical learning in the course;
- the qualifications and experience of the academics;
- the facilities offered by the institution;
- tution costs; and
- living expenses (which will be affected by the location of the institute), etc.
In undertaking your research, you should carefully analyse the course structure and course curriculum. To obtain information on these you should visit the institute's web site or refer totheir brochures.
While there is no official ranking of the Australian institutions, there are some private surveys that are undertaken from time to time. The Good Universities Guide is a private publications that provides some comparative information. The Australian Government also provides information about what previous students think about the education that they have received from their institution. The "Which University" website: www.whichuniversity.gov.au provides comments about different universities and the courses that they offer from the perspective of graduates.
Unlike some other countries, the higher education institutions in Australia generally have two student intakes each year, in the months of January and February and then in July and August. Increasingly some institutions have started undertaking intake of students in the September to November period as well. Identify the intake best suited to you keeping in mind the time frame required to complete the apllication and study visa process. You should have started applying for admission ideally 4 of 5 months prior to the date that orientation for your course commences
Once you have identified an institution, you can apply either directly or through the local education representative of the institution. Wait patiently for minimum one month for a reply and if required, write an e-mail or give a call to the international office. While waiting for the offer see to it that you have an up to date passport and your IELTS English language test result. Also get acquainted with the student visa rules and regulations and identify as to how you intend funding yourself. Once you get an offer letter you need to proceed to apply for a student visa.
